The VMUPro can send and receive files from a Sega VMU connected to the top Maple port.

## Sending Files from the VMUPro

**1**: Connect the **Sega VMU** and the **VMUPro** via the top Maple ports.

**2**: The **Sega VMU** must be in the file manager, that is, showing **Free ??? Game ??? **or listing your saves.

**3**: On the **VMUPro** open a VMC in the \[[VMU Browser](docId\:jJmU1QOm-Kvx6ySgEfVzs)], and select the file you want to send.
Then scroll down to **Serial Send**.

**4**: Press **A** on the VMUPro to start the send

**5**: The **VMUPro** will spend a few moments detecting the VMU, handshaking, then start transferring the save.

## Receiving files on the VMUPro

Start by opening the \[[VMU Browser](docId\:jJmU1QOm-Kvx6ySgEfVzs)] to receive files.

If you have a VMC open (i.e. viewing its contents), then received files will be placed into that VMC.

Alternatively, from the list view (i.e. no open VMC) the VMUPro will auto detect where to put the received saves, creating new VMCs and channels if necessary.

### Steps to receive files:

The procedure for both methods is ultimately the same.

**1**: Connect the **VMUPro** and the **VMU**.

**2**: Open the **VMUPro** \[[VMU Browser](docId\:jJmU1QOm-Kvx6ySgEfVzs)] App.

**3**: On the **Sega VMU**, highlight the file you want to send, then press **Right** on the **D-Pad** twice.

**4**: On the **Sega VMU** select **Copy**, then confirm **YES**. The Sega VMU will now wait for a connection.

**5**: On the **VMUPro** (either list view or content view), press the **Mode** button and select **VMU2VMU**.

**6**: The **Sega VMU** may ask to confirm a second time, select **YES**.

**7**: The file will start transferring.

**Q: I'm in the Browser's List View, where did my file go?**
**A**: If the save can be identified (i.e. it's a known game), the VMUPro will locate or create the correct VMC by the **GameID**, and place the recieved file there, otherwise it will be placed in **MemoryCard1**.

**Q: What happens if I have duplicate files or run out of space? (List View)**
**A:** The VMUpro will check channels 1,2,3...99 until it can find or create a VMC with enough space and no duplicates. Afterwards the target VMC **will be highlighted**.

**Q: My transfers are failing or can't be detected!**
**A:** This is usually due to **dirty contacts** or a **poor connection** between the VMUPro and the Sega VMU. Clean the contacts, reconnect the devices and power-cycle the VMUPro.
Note: Shut down the VMUPro via the \[[Settings](docId:4G3X5T_toaMnRIwX3GUyu)] menu, the **Sleep** button is just a light sleep.
:::

**Q: Why can't I copy games?**
**A:** The Sega VMU doesn't allow games to be copied. It may be possible in a future update, or via third party Dreamcast software.
