First Time Setup
The MemCard PRO2 requires a properly formatted microSD card (not included) in order to work. Any microSD card rated Class 4 and above will work for basic functionality, of any size up to 2TB. Each gigabyte of storage space amounts to approximately 8,000 PlayStation 1 or 128 8MB PlayStation 2 virtual memory cards (VMCs).
For advanced functionality like PS2 Virtual Memory Cards of 16, 32, 64 or 128MB, or for use with the OPL MMCE protocol, a fast Class 10 A1+ rated microSD card is required. Lower performance cards may impact your experience with these features.
To prepare your microSD card, you will need any computer and a microSD card reader (or a full size card reader with a microSD to SD card adapter.
Download the official “SD Card Formatter” software from the SD Card Association website.
Run the formatter and select your SD card. Select “Quick Format” and give it a “Volume Label” if you’d like. Press the “Format” button
You will also need the MemCard PRO2 Latest Firmware files and operating system. You can download the files from our firmware update page.
The MemCard PRO2 comes with the latest firmware installed, however depending on whether there have been any newer updates published since purchasing your card, you may need to update it to the latest version.
Once you have downloaded your file, extract its contents to the newly formatted microSD card. You should have two new items in the root folder of your card:
- mcp2.bin (file)
- os (folder)
Safely-eject your microSD card from your computer and plug it into the microSD card slot of your MemCard PRO2.
If you prefer to use a USB storage device instead of a microSD card to store your saves, you can do that by connecting a flash drive or external SSD or HDD drive. However, please make sure that you power it externally, as the MemCard PRO2 USB port does not supply any power.
Make sure you format your drive with a simple MBR partition scheme and FAT32 or exFat file system. Then you can prepare the files in the same way as described above for the sd card.
If you decide to replace the microSD card or your USB Storage device on your MemCard PRO2, you will need to repeat the process for the new storage medium.
You can plug the MemCard PRO2 in to either slot of your PlayStation, PSOne or PlayStation 2 console.
