Gamepad Receiver Mode
IMPORTANT NOTICE: DO NOT USE this mode while another controller or controller receiver is connected to the same port as the MemCard PRO2 to avoid damaging your console, MemCard PRO2 or controller / adapter. For example, if you have the MemCard PRO2 connected to Port #1, you should leave the Controller Port #1 empty.
If you want connect a controller or controller adapter to the same port as the MemCard PRO2, please deactivate the controller mode first by disconnecting your controller from the MemCard PRO2.
The latest version of the MemCard PRO2 firmware brings an exciting new feature to the PlayStation 1. You can now use the MemCard PRO2 as a Bluetooth wireless or USB wired Gamepad receiver, in conjunction to all other functionality (i.e. the MemCard PRO2 will still function as a memory card as normal, while receiving your gamepad inputs.
In order to use this feature, please follow the instructions below:
In order to connect a new BLE Bluetooth controller to the MemCard PRO2 for the first time:
- Power up your BLE compatible gamepad (see table below) and put it in pairing mode (see gamepad's manual)
- Press and hold the left button to bring up the menu
- Using the left button, change the cursor to the Bluetooth option, and enter the sub-menu with the right button
- Select the option "Pair Controller"
- The Wi-Fi icon will be replaced with a flashing Bluetooth icon. This means that the MemCard PRO2 is in pairing mode.
- Pairing mode is enabled for 1 minute, after which it will be deactivated automatically.
- If the controller is detected, the MemCard PRO2 will connect to it and the Bluetooth icon will revert back to the WiFi icon.
- By default, pairing a controller to the MemCard PRO2 will make it "remember" it, and auto-connect on boot will be activated. This allows you to connect the controller by simply powering it up along with the console. This behaviour can be turned off in the MemCard PRO2 settings.
The MemCard PRO2 can also act as a Gamepad controller receiver through its USB port. In order to use this feature, you need to use either a Y-Splitter Cable or a Powered OTG USB HUB with a micro-USB connector on the host side.
To make sure this mode works, the host cable (i.e. the cable that connects to the MemCard PRO2) and the receiver cable must both supply power (5v DC). In the case of a Y-Splitter cable, you will need to connect one end to the MemCard PRO2, one end to the controller and the last one to a USB power supply.
The MemCard PRO2 supports most USB HID compatible gamepads, including the Sony DualShock3, DualShock4 and DualSense controllers. Please see full compatibility list in the table below.
In order to connect a USB Gamepad to the MemCard PRO2:
- Press and hold the left button on the MemCard PRO2 to access the menu
- Using the left button, select the "Connect USB Pad" option
- Connect your USB controller cable. The gamepad will power up and connect to the MemCard PRO2
- Specifically for the DualShock3 controller, you need to press the "PS" button once to wake up the controller
- If the Gamepad allows, it will show the mode it is in (Digital or Analog) through its LED lights.
The Gamepads below have been tested by 8BITMODS and have been mapped internally. More gamepads will be added in the future, but many Xbox BLE controller may work without firmware updates necessary.
