Bluetooth Controllers
Connecting a BT controller to the NES HUB couldn't be any easier! Follow the instructions below if you're not familiar with the BlueRETRO software already. These instructions assume that you've already completed the "Installation Instructions" step:
- Turn on the NES
- The LED light on the left side of the console will start pulsing. This means that it's ready to pair to a new controller.
- Using your favourite bluetooth controller, follow its instructions to set it to pairing mode.
- Wait a few seconds. The controller will pair to the NES HUB. Once this process is complete, the LED light on the NES HUB will turn off.
- From now on, turning on the controller with the NES on will automatically connect it to the NES HUB.
- Short press (when not in pairing mode): Disconnects all paired Bluetooth controllers from the NES HUB
- Short press (when in pairing mode): Cancels pairing mode
- Hold for 3 seconds: Enables Bluetooth Pairing mode (to pair a new controller)
- Hold for 10 seconds: Factory-reset the NES HUB and clears all paired controllers from memory.
The BlueRetro Web Config is only available when no controllers are connected to the NES HUB.
The BlueRetro Web Config requires the use of the Google Chrome browser. It will not work with any other browser.
To access the BlueRetro Web Config page, follow the procedure below:
- Power up your NES and without turning on any paired controllers, open a new window on a bluetooth enabled computer or phone with Google Chrome.
- Depending on the function you want to access, press the link on the BlueRetro Web Config page. A popup will appear. You should be able to see the NES HUB device in that popup. If you can't see the NES HUB, make sure that no devices near it have Bluetooth enabled and have accidentally paired with it.
- The relevant configuration page will load where you can change various different settings of the NES HUB. Make sure to scroll to the bottom once you're done configuring your device and click the Save button to save your changes.
A complete guide to the BlueRetro Web Config can be found on the following page: https://github.com/darthcloud/BlueRetro/wiki
In order to use more than 2 controllers with the NES HUB, you need to first change the "Multitap Config" option in the BlueRetro Web Config to the "Dual" option. The NES HUB will then emulate a FourScore adapter.
If you want to use a Keyboard or Mouse with the NES HUB, you can change the "Output Config Mode" to the "Keyboard" or "Mouse" option.
The NES HUB is powered by the BlueRetro Open Source Software. When a firmware update is available from the software authors, you can apply it directly to the NES HUB. It does not require a special build.
To update the firmware, visit the BlueRetro Releases page and download the latest "HW1" version. Unzip the file you downloaded and using a Bluetooth enabled device with Google Chrome, navigate to the Blueretro Update page. Connect to the NES HUB and select the "BlueRetro_hw1_nes.bin" file from the unzipped folder you downloaded. The progress bar will advance. Please wait until the process completes, this can take several minutes. Do not power off your NES until this process is complete.
